Those Who Fight

Welcome to Those Who Fight, a collaboration of websites dedicated to the characters of the Final Fantasy series by Squaresoft and Square-Enix. This is a project created by Stefi, Todd, and Tamisa, who are all avid fans of the RPG games. With this project, we aim to list one quality tribute to every Final Fantasy character to not only provide a well-rounded look at each game, but to shine light on all of the characters -- not just the most popular. In our experiences being part of the Final Fantasy community with our own shrines, we have found that the same characters keep getting shrines over time, while many great characters are left without tributes. We hope to inspire shrine makers to take a chance on these overlooked characters.

Shrines are listed by game and can be found in the navigation to the left, or by simply scrolling down this page. You will also find more information on this project, as well as guidelines and a form to submit your existing or upcoming shrine for approval. We hope you enjoy visiting these tributes! Final Fantasy has some of the very best character shrines available online. If you find yourself inspired, consider applying for an available character to help us give these amazing characters each a tribute!

Rules / Guidelines

Pre-Application:

  • You may only apply for a character that hasn't been claimed (see lists below).
  • 1 preexisting site and/or 1 unclaimed character can be approved per application cycle. However, you are welcome to apply for as many preexisting sites or characters as you'd like in order from most to least desired.
  • You can apply every application cycle, and there are no restrictions on the number of characters you can have listed.

Post-Approval (New Sites):

  • Progress checks will be made occasionally, about every month or so. We'll just want to know where you're at and might ask to see what you're working on. Once we see that the site has been mostly completed, we won't bother you anymore!
  • While your claim will be listed on the site with your name, any pre-work information from progress checks that you share with us will be kept private.
  • We understand that life events may prevent you from submitting a progress check or completing a shrine on time. If you need an extension granted, feel free to reach out to us about it!
  • If we haven't seen any evidence of progress for at least two checks, we'll send out a warning. We would really hate to dismiss anyone, so please do your best to work on your sites!

Post-Approval (Completed Sites):

  • A link back to TWF is required, preferably on your front page.
  • You can choose however you want to display the above links. You can even use the character images here if you want!

Note: Aside from official info, stolen content is grounds for disqualification without prior notice.

If you have any questions, head on over to our FAQ section to see if it's been answered. Otherwise, shoot us an email!

Approval

Here at TWF, we want to be as transparent as possible when it comes to chosing the right sites to become part of the collection. We approve shrines in an on-average monthly cycle. All approved shrines, current and upcoming, will be listed in one monthly update.

The reason we won't update more than once a month is we would like to give as many people as possible an opportunity to apply for a character. While we would love for people to have shrines for more than one character listed here, we want to keep it as fair as possible and give everyone interested an opportunity to apply to have a shrine listed.

If we receive more than one application per cycle, you may only be approved for one upcoming site and/or one preexisting site. We hope this doesn't discourage anyone! If you don't receive an approval for a character you apply for, you are free to apply for another character, and may apply again if the character you applied for becomes available again. We hope you will still make the shrine you wanted to make whether you are approved or not.

We will make every effort to be extremely fair when making approvals. Lots of factors will weigh into our decisions:

  1. We are more likely to approve current quality shrines over upcoming ones.
  2. We are more likely to approve a currently unlisted webmaster over one who already has one or several shrines listed.
  3. The application itself weighs very heavily, so please tell us what you plan to do with the shrine and why you want the character.

Submitted applications are sent to us in confidence and won't be discussed with anyone outside the admins

After You Are Approved
If we select your shrine to represent a character here at Those Who Fight, we will send you an approval e-mail. If your shrine is already online, we will go ahead and link it once you've shown that you have linked us back.

If your shrine is upcoming, we will put your name and a coming soon message on your character so others will know your character is no longer available. In most cases, after you have been approved you will have four or five months to make a shrine. We are willing to discuss extensions and will work with you as we know replays can take time, some characters take more time to shrine than others, real life gets in the way, and everyone shrines at different speeds.

Apply

Characters still needing shrines are shown as grayscaled under each game, along with other minor characters not listed. If you currently have a shrine, or are interested in making a shrine to one of them, we'd love for your shrine to be part of Those Who Fight! There are some guidelines and an approval process we'd like to make you aware of. If you have any questions after reading this page, please feel free to reach out to Stefi or Todd, or include your question in your application form. .

Construction Zone
We will eventually run a marathon in line with Amassment's Construction Zone event. With it, we will list incomplete, in progress shrines! If you don't have a lot of free time but have always wanted to shrine a Final Fantasy character, this is your opportunity! Build the shrine slowly. As long as we see progress being made to finish the site, we will keep it listed while it's built publicly.

Final Fantasy IV

The dark knight Cecil, stripped of his command of the Red Wings, set out for the distant Valley of Mist. Together with Kain, commander of the Dragoons, he would pursue a faceless quarry--and a chance for redemption. The advent of the airship had marked the realization of mankind's most ancient dream. But man is a creature seldom sated, and he was quick to dream anew. With the unparalleled might of the Red Wings, Baron's military soon reigned supreme. Why, then, does its king now seek the Crystals? And why have fearsome monsters suddenly begun to overrun the once calm land? If the Crystals know, they share no answers--only their pure and silent light.

Final Fantasy VI

The ancient War of the Magi...When its flames at last receded, only the charred husk of a world remained. Even the power of magic was lost. In the thousand years that followed, iron, gunpowder, and steam engines took the place of magic, and life slowly returned to the barren land. Yet there now stands one who would reawaken the magic of ages past, and uses its dread power as a means by which to conquer all the world. Could anyone truly be foolish enough to repeat that mistake?

Final Fantasy VII

In Midgar, a city controlled by the mega-conglomerate Shinra Inc., the No. 1 Mako Reactor has been blown up by a rebel group, AVALANCHE. It was secretly formed to wage a rebellion against Shinra Inc., an organisation which is absorbing Mako energy, destroying the natural resources of the planet. Cloud, a former member of Shinra's elite combat force, SOLDIER, was involved with the bombing of the Mako Reactor. Can Cloud and AVALANCHE protect the planet from the huge, formidable enemy, Shinra Inc.?

Final Fantasy VIII

It is a time of war. Galbadia, a Global Superpower, has declared war on Dollet, a country whose training academy is home to two personalities: the hot-headed Seifer and the ''lone wolf'', Squall Leonhart. Both are equally at conflict with each other as their country is with Galbadia; to others, Squall appears lacking in team spirit, while Seifer lacks the discipline of his rival. However, a chance encounter with the free-spirited Rinoa Heartilly turns Squall's universe upside down; having thrived on discipline, Squall find the carefree Rinoa fascinating. He also begins to dream that he is Laguna Loire, a Galbadian army soldier....

Final Fantasy IX

Princess Garnet of Alexandria will soon celebrate her birthday, and to commemorate the occasion, a theater troupe has come to put on a show. However, these traveling performers have come not to entertain but to kidnap Her Highness. What starts as a seemingly simple seizure escalates into an incredible adventure.

Final Fantasy X

In ages past, the world of Spira experienced a golden age of perfection, brought about by an advanced civilization through the use of wondrous machinery called machina. However, around one thousand years before the present day, a colossal menace known only as "Sin" appeared and sundered all before it. Though a line of summoners have since brought Sin low many times, it inevitably returns in an unending cycle of destruction. In the face of this ever-pervasive threat, the people of Spira flocked to the teachings of Yevon, which tell that Sin is a punishment to those who relied overly on machina. Tidus is a young Blitzball star that mysteriously finds himself in Spira after his home city of Zanarkand is destroyed by Sin one thousand years in the past. Believing Sin to be the key to returning home, Tidus joins a young summoner named Yuna on her pilgrimage to destroy Sin and bring about the Calm.

Final Fantasy XII

Enter an era of war within the world of Ivalice. The small kingdom of Dalmasca, conquered by the Archadian Empire, is left in ruin and uncertainty. Princess Ashe, the one and only heir to the throne, devotes herself to the resistance to liberate her country. Vaan, a young man who lost his family in the war, dreams of flying freely in the skies.

Final Fantasy XIII

As a deepening crisis threatens to plunge the floating world of Cocoon into chaos, a band of unsuspecting strangers find themselves branded enemies of the state. With the panicking population baying for their blood, and the military all too happy to oblige, they have no choice but to run for their lives.

Final Fantasy XV

Enroute to wed his fiancée Luna on a road trip with his best friends, Prince Noctis is advised by news reports that his homeland has been invaded and taken over under the false pretense of a peace treaty – and that he, his loved one and his father King Regis, have been slain at the hands of the enemy. To gather the strength needed to uncover the truth and reclaim his homeland, Noctis and his loyal companions must overcome a series of challenges in a spectacular open world - that is filled with larger-than-life creatures, amazing wonders, diverse cultures and treacherous foes.

FAQ

  1. There's character that's not on the list. Can I apply to make a shrine to him/her or submit my preexisting one?
Please do! It was a bit time consuming to do an image for every single character, so we only did the main party or antagonist. We''ll create an image and list you if you get approved.

  2. Can I apply for a character in a game from a sequel/prequel/etc.? What about other Final Fantasies?
Yes! Our list above is incomplete, but we will accept applications from other Final Fantasy games. Characters from prequels or sequels will be listed under their original game (ex. Crisis Core characters will be listed under Final Fantasy VII).

  3. Is there a time limit for me to complete the site?
We'd like to see the majority of it completed at the end of five months, but we're more than willing to give extensions if you need it. We're really more focused on our applicants working at their own pace to produce a quality site.

  4. I don't have anything to show for the next progress check. Am I in trouble?
That's fine! We won't really get worried until after we have seen anything by the second check.

  5. I got some work done recently. Can I send my results in advance for this upcoming progress check?
Yup! Just send us an email and include in the subject title "(Month) (Year) Progress Check - (Final Fantasy game) (Character)"

  6. I have a lot on my plate or I need more time. Can I request an extension?
Sure! We're pretty understading. Just be sure to let us know so we can talk about the extension length.

  7. Under what circumstances does a claimed character become available?
A spot will open if the original claimer drops our or if their site has permanently gone down. You can apply once the character's image is grayed out on the list.

  8. Will you accept couple sites or general series sites?
While we truly love visiting and appreciating these sites, unfortunately we are not accepting them at the moment since they don't align with our project objective.

  9. I have X issue and would like to request an exemption.
We're pretty flexible around here, so feel free to shoot us an email to discuss.

  10. I don't think I can ever finish my site. Would it be possible to drop out?
Yes, you can drop from the project and your character will become available to the public again. Keep in mind that if you want back in, you'll have to repply.

About & Links Out

Those Who Fight has been in the works for a long time. We originally discussed the idea in 2011, and began working on it that year. We got the layout made, the site laid out, and nearly had Those Who Fight ready to go, but just dropped it as we got busy with other projects and our own personal lives. Todd made a move across the country. Stefi moved to Japan and back. Tamisa became a doctor. In 2016, Stefi and Todd picked the project back up and launched it on September 12. Tamisa, sadly, no longer maintains shrines and is no longer part of the project, but she was very much part of the idea, and contributed a lot to TWF, including the beautiful layout. We're extremely thankful for her participation and hard work. ♥

We love Final Fantasy, we love its characters, and we love Final Fantasy shrines. Those Who Fight is a labor of love all around. Our goal is to see the Final Fantasy community continue to grow and thrive. More shrines, especially to different characters is beneficial to everyone; visitors have more sites to visit and enjoy, and shrine makers have more sites to affiliate and network with. We would love to see every Final Fantasy character shrined, and we won't stop until we do. We hope you enjoyed your visit here, and we hope you come back as more shrines get added!

If you would like to link Those Who Fight, we have created a couple buttons for you to use. Shrine makers are free to use these to link back to us as well, though you are free to make your own codes or link Those Who Fight however you wish.
